Every month, an accounting team has to turn invoices, bank movements and supporting schedules into a coherent set of accounts. The work is repetitive, but its meaning depends on the client, the period and the decisions already made. Auxiliar AI brings preparation, reconciliation and review into a shared workflow, giving professionals more room to investigate exceptions and exercise judgment.
01 / The work
The difficult part is keeping the whole month connected.
An invoice may establish an obligation; a later bank movement may settle it; a closing entry may adjust what remains. Treating those events as independent tasks creates gaps and duplicated work. The application connects source documents, the chart of accounts, transaction history and proposed entries within one client and accounting period.
The team designed around the accounting firm’s existing work: prepare invoices, reconcile bank activity, resolve exceptions and assemble the month-end adjustments. Each stage needs to carry its supporting facts forward so the next stage can use them.
02 / The work
Specialists prepare the work. The team controls the decisions.
Invoice workers interpret supplier, customer, payroll and credit-note activity. Bank workers address settlements, fees, payments and transfers. These are different accounting problems, so each receives a bounded task and the context it needs.
Code extracts document facts, performs supported calculations and checks structure. AI helps interpret relationships and prepare accounting proposals. Accountants review the explanation, inspect the supporting evidence and resolve missing information. A proposed entry has its own state before it becomes posted accounting.
03 / The work
Make exceptions visible before they reach the ledger.
A transaction can be numerically balanced and still have the wrong treatment. Review therefore connects the proposed accounts and amounts to the original evidence and the client’s accounting policy. The interface brings entries, exceptions and explanations into the same work surface.
The design extends review to the month-end close: determine that the month is complete and that reports agree with the approved work. Approval, posting and closing a period are distinct actions, with checks between them. This makes the accountant’s decision part of the workflow itself.
04 / The work
Build continuity from one month to the next.
Accounting teams accumulate knowledge about how a particular client operates. The design turns accepted treatments into versioned client knowledge, with eligibility rules for the period being processed. That continuity reduces repeated investigation and keeps it clear which prior decision informed a proposal.
The implementation brings together accounting professionals, product direction and engineering across data preparation, AI workers, the review interface and release controls. The resulting system provides a common place to prepare work, understand exceptions and make accountable decisions.
The lesson
Useful accounting automation preserves the relationship between evidence, interpretation and the professional decision.
